MessageMadame Speaker,

While I don’t like the idea of mandatory conscription I do understand that it is important during times of war. This bill will have the support of the Moderate Caucus. I encourage the rest of the UDP to vote their conscience on this bill.

MessageMadam Speaker,

We are concerned as to how this legislation would be perceived by other nations, particularly our neighbours. It would give the impression we are preparing war, which we should not be - and which we are not.

All in all, the effect of this bill would be to create a lot of expensive and wasteful bureaucracy, whilst also potentially undermining our relations with other countries.

Random fact: The voters enjoy active parties who take upon themselves the initiative to create laws.

Random quote: "Perhaps the fact that we have seen millions voting themselves into complete dependence on a tyrant has made our generation understand that to choose one's government is not necessarily to secure freedom." - Friedrich Hayek
