Message | "Does a party that calls itself socialist really wish to make membership of our National Assembly make a pasttime for the well-off? Wages for parliamentarian were introduced so that people with no wealth at their disposal and low incomes could afford to spend their time and energy for parliamentary work. Reducing these wages to a nominal income will make parliamentary membership once more exclusive to those who can afford it, the wealthy and those who earn high incomes for relatively little work which they can still get done parallel to their time-consuming duties as parliamentarians." Jacó Henriques, leader of the UDT and Minister of Internal Affairs |
