| Hadan Al-Maktum, President of the Republic: "Mr Speaker, representative of the country, I'm here proposing something that if it is already a "de facto" situation, I think it was never formalize "de jure". I'm talking about the condition and the recognition of the Istalian Majatrans. They are the largest and the most ancient minority present in Istalia, they showed to be perfectly integrated with the rest of the istalian citizens and for century they worked, lived and prospered in harmony alongside the istalians. Today, the Istalians and the istalian Majatrans are almost indistinguishable, however, the istalian majatrans still continue to enrich our country with their traditions and with their charateristic, contributing to make great this land of opportunity, freedom and tollerance. For this reason, I think that, despite the current great degree of homogenization of the istalian majatrans witht the rest of the population, we have to formalize something accepted and unofficially recognized for long time. A recognition which will also thank the istalian Majatrans for their loyality and their support of the values that make this country great. With this measure, the Istalian Majatrans will be officially, and so "de jure", fully recognized as undivisible part of the Istalian people and their traditions will be fully recognized as part of the istalian traditions. Furthermore, in the communities with more than 60% of the population belonging to the Istalian Majatran ethnic-cultural group, they will be authorized to demand to the local authorities to consider the application of a double language standard for public advises and road signs, the learning of the Majatrans as second language at the primary schools. Istalian language, however, shall maintain the priority and it shall be used for all the official documents released by any Istalian local or national authority. Thank you" |
