Details
Submitted by[?]: Saída Pela Esquerda! (SPE)
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 4494
Description[?]:
HONORABLE MEMBERS OF THE ASSEMBLEIA NACIONAL, REITERATING the arguments made in the defeated Reform for Representative Elections of 4473, and in the defeated Proposal for Reviewing the Number of Seats in the National Assembly of 4474; SEEKING to enhance election algorithms and enforce legislation that hinders corruption; THE PST PROPOSES THE FOLLOWING with considerations: Informed by the fact that currently 1 seat in Parliament represents 390,935 voters, an appalling high proportion and questioning the extent that the current seat/population ratio contemplates our country's vast diversity in races and beliefs, we propose a change to the number of seats in the National Assembly. Our initial proposal is 355 seats. This number seeks to reduce the seat/population ratio to under 300,000, whilst ensuring an odd number of seats to prevent gridlocks. (CURRENT) -- Total Pop: 99,688,530 / 255 Seats / 51 per Prefeitura -- Seat/Pop Ratio: 390,935 (PROPOSED) -- 355 Seats / 71 per Prefeitura -- Seat/Pop Ratio: 280,812 |

Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action. |
