Bill: 'State Church'
Details
Submitted by[?]: Partisans And Artisans League
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 2071
Description[?]:
The PAL believes that the formation of a state church shold be outlawed. We (if you read our party description) are a party which bases its beliefs on christianity, and we believe that the formation of a 'state church' would have a damaging effect on the beliefs and practices of the members. Therefore, state churches should never be allowed to exist. However churches of any description should be allowed to practice freely and without government interference. |

Message | It does. Basically, the bill says that there will be no state religion. |

Message | We are in complete agreement with this bill. The Beluzian Republic should be secular institution, religion has no place in politics! |

Message | Thats not what I'm getting at; it is more to say that there can't be a state church like the Church of England so that the state cannot influence the worship of the population in a negative way. Does that make more sense? (Sorry for the rw example btw) |

Message | religion has a place in politics because it makes some politicians (like me) what I am. But, the place is in the way the individual politicians work and what they propose/stand up for. Religion has a huge place in politics because your beliefs make you the person you are, just like athiests (because they have a belief - of sorts). If a democratically elected party wishes to base all its proposals on - say - the bible that is up to them and is fine because if the bill/proposal passes then it has passed because of the general feelings of the population - which may be religious. So religion does have a place in politics is a very dangerous and alienating comment. |

Message | You are confusing 'religious ideas', with 'religion'. ie: If you are christian and think that having many wives is immoral because the bible says so, then you are of course entitled to your opinion and have the right to propose a bill banning polygamy. That's 'religious ideas' in politics, and that's ok. However, if you decide to favour one religion over another, or if you decide to make christianity the official state religion, or if you give funding to one religion over another, or if you ban another religion entirely, that's wrong, because that's being dictatorial and having religious bias. That's letting religious aspects meddle into the political camp. And that's wrong. |

Message | I agree with the two examples you gave, but give some more and see if I agree with you completely, because I'm not sure that I understand the distinction 100%... |
