Bill: RP Law - Further Amendment to the Constitutional Reform Act of 4497 (Article 2 - Right To Vote)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Zhtál-Merlkai Tjarziprta

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 4518

Description[?]:

Members of The Grand Council,

Following on from our extension of suffrage to include members of the armed forces, police and security services personnel we aim to further widen out the right to vote.

This will give all people in employment and paying taxes and national insurance contributions to the government, the right to vote. In this way they will have a direct say on how their contributions to the local and national government coffers are being spent.

This extension to the right to vote will be introduced before the next general election. If we are successful in winning that election, we intend to look at further democratic reforms in the following term of government.

If approved Article 2 of the Constitutional Reform Act 4497 Constitutional Reform Act 4497 (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=588510) will read:

Article 2 - "The nobility and those citizens with assets in Vanuku worth over 1 million VAN will be granted electoral suffrage and may vote to elect the national and local parties of their choice. Similarly, serving members of the armed forces as well as veterans, current and retired member of the government's security forces and serving and retired police officers are eligible to vote in national and local elections. Furthermore, people who are currently employed and pay tax and national insurance contributions to the government are granted the right to vote in national and local elections. Only members of the nobility and other people entitled to vote may stand for election to public office."

This amendment requires the backing of two-thirds of this house to pass into law.

Herlkai Adlésrmko Vrhelmszo
Prefect of Vanuku

(OOC: This is a constitutional RP Law, as governed by Section 6.e. of the Game Rules (http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8088).As this introduces changes to the constitution it requires a 2/3 majority to pass, and it would similarly require a 2/3rds majority vote to overturn or amend it.
