Description[?]:

Glaucian Law on the Clergy

Senators,

Senator Waqar's recent legislative proposal rightfully recognized the public importance of religion for the common welfare, although I believe his bill did not go far enough in its recognition of the invaluable public service that the clergy perform. The clergy are, no doubt about it, political figures. They motivate their congregants to take an active interest in social and political issues, and they themselves are often politically active, by taking stances on issues such as civil rights, poverty, unemployment, gender equality, and numerous other issues that are a public concern. Due to the benefit that ministers of religion provide in creating an active and engaged citizenry, something that benefits the Republic as a whole and not only individual Provinces, it is the duty of the Republic to compensate them for their public sacrifice. I therefore move to expand Senator Waqar's proposal and recognize all ministers of religion as civil servants, remunerated by public funds.

Random fact: Parties have the ability to endorse another party's candidate for the Head of State election (if there is one). This adds a strategic element to the elections.
