MessageI support the FCP on this issue, subsidies manipulate the market, and reward inefficiency, ultimately harming the consumer. Forced membership of trade unions is immoral since it undermines freedom of association. The point of social welfare is to have services free at the point of use, and if the private sector can deliver better than the public sector (which it usually does), surely there is no reason to penalise it or ban it? A much better way to ensure the good education of all would be to have a direct-grant education system, allowing the most gifted pupils to go to private schools at the expense of the state. Private education helps alleviate pressure on the public sector, with parents of children there paying the tax and asking for nothing in return. It is folly to stop this, and the Free Democrat Party will be voting against this Bill.
