Bill: The Rights Of The Accused And Convicted
Details
Submitted by[?]: Humanist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 4547
Description[?]:
We believe that those who are accused or convicted of a crime still have some basic rights, we propose the following articles for the consideration of the senate. 1.) All convicted citizens should retain the right to vote, we believe that voting is the cornerstone of democracy and the removal of right to vote from convicted criminals is a violation of the most basic of democratic rights. The basic right to vote should not be removed even in those convicted of criminal offence. 2.) We consider it a right of any person not convicted of a crime to have privacy over their genetic information, only when a person is convicted of a crime may their right be wavered and their DNA be stored in the event of repeat offence. 3.) In the interest of justice we argue that in some cases a citizen of our nation may be extradited if there is certainty of a fair trial, the lack of a death penalty and the humane, fair treatment of convicted criminals. 4.) We believe that all people are entitled to a good quality of legal representation, we argue that those lacking funds should receive the help of the state to ensure a right to adequate representation. 5.) In regards to physical punishment we consider this to be inhumane and cruel treatment and wish to see it abolished. Charles E. Smith, Minister of Internal Affairs. |
