MessageA group of 36 Representatives from the Socialist Workers Party and the Liberal National Party introduced this bill to the Finance Committee. We believe it is imperative that all citizens contribute to the correct functioning of our government and the State. However, this matter was not taken lightly. I discussed with Finance Committee Ranking Member John Glenn on the approach we should have and agreed to hold hearings with Finance Secretary Beulah Hanson and Secretary of Interior John Martin. Mrs. Hanson said an increase was imperative, while Mr. Martin stated that increases should be made periodically so people can easily get accustomed to the new taxes. The Committee passed the bill with certain changes and now it's presented on the floor. Vote at your discretion and express your opinion.

MessageWe are voting no because while we agree that we need increased revenue we feel like a jump from 10 to 35 is to great a jump at once.
