Description[?]:
(This bill was proposed by the MP Alan Glen) The current system of having the governement partially paying for legal expense is a complete failure. Many people are refusing to pay for the legal service provided by the governement simply because they fear to put a huge monetary burden on their family. That cause many people to go to court without any form of legal representation and a lot of them get to be declared guilty. This is nothing more than a parody of justice system. A system that put people in jail simply because they can't afford legal representation doesn't ahve any justice in it. It's the state that prosecute the people thus it should be the state that ensure that the people are well represented in it's own system. It is the state that creates the problem thus it should be the state that create the solution. It is only fair. |

Message | “Mr. Speaker, Judging by the statement by the MP who proposed this bill, I’m quite convinced they haven’t read the current law. In the NPP’s system, the only people who will get good lawyers will be the politically powerful. And that’s not justice.” Jane Burton (NMPH-LA) Leader of the Opposition |

Message | Mr Speaker, It doesn't suprise me that the member from the NPP claims to not know what the Honourable Leader of the Opposition is talking about. It is a cover-up. The NPP know damn well that if a friend of the Prime Minister or some high ranking government official were in need of a lawyer, THAT party would ensure they recieved the best lawyer available, while someone who is not a friend of the government would receive a less qualified lawyer. That is exactly what elitists do, they take care of their own under the disguise of helping everyone. Hon. Jacob Houston MP for Glentingham East Leader of the Royalist Party |
