MessageThis bill neither corrupts local government nor does it centralise the administration. The SLL just believes the mayor should be more a head of government figure, and be able to have a majority in the Municipal Council backing him. Therefore we think the democratically elected Municipal Council should elect the mayors.

MessageSolidarität opposes this proposal, as it will result in an undemocratically-elected leader of each municipality. Local government should be responsive to the people as a whole, not to the special interests who may be able to control the municipal council.

Random fact: Party candidates for head of state elections are not visible to the public. This means that you cannot see who will run and who will not, which adds another strategic element to the elections.
