Bill: OOC RP: Culture and Constitution Discussion

Details

Submitted by[?]: Progressive Party of Lodamun - Liberals

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 4791

Description[?]:

Hi again. I decided that it was necessary to open up a discussion into what direction the next constitution should take Lodamun as well as the future culture of the nation.

I feel as the UK exists in Luthori and the US has been overdone to death not only in Seleya but elsewhere, we should look towards the Commonwealth States such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand for inspiration on the way inwhich we should form our new culture.

Hence I propose a move towards a Trans-Tasman/ Canadian culture, with a Federal Parliamentary/Semi Presidential Republican structure in order to avoid comparisons to the US or the UK. It will give us access to Australian, Canadian and New Zealand military equipment, and allow us to continue the nations prestigious history as a Federal ex-colonial and Luthorian nation.

Any suggestions or questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

MessageYou know, I sort-of feel like Lodamun might have already managed to create its own distinct culture in the last almost 3000 years of active existence with the ancient Kregonian empire and constantly changing capitals and that whole Shadowlands ordeal and Lodamese nationalism “religion” etc etc etc. And all of that happened without any deliberate pigeonholing. In addition, I sort-of understood Lodamun as having not an English or para-English culture but a less restrictive “open culture”. Maybe it’d just be better to read through the wiki page and then briefly skim through past elections and bills etc. Our green party was, for example, generous enough to update the General Information post with an overview of past regimes with direct links to the votes that created them etc.
I don’t feel the need to all of the sudden start roleplaying Canadians.

MessageI feel you're misunderstanding my position. We are going to need some form of cultural position if we are remotely going to have a chance at joining the wider Particracy community. We are an Luthori speaking ex-colonial nation. Technology is directly tied to the cultures that you pick. Hence telling people we are whatever the equivalent of Australians/Canadians is in game isn't an adjustment of the culture already in place, rather, it gives us more freedom to develop our military and country using Australian/Canadian equipment and locations. Hence rather than imposing a culture, I am keeping it open without separating us from the wider geopolitical game.

MessageA similar thing could be said for say Hulstria, or Vanuku, nations without ties to specific existing nations but that still harness real life assets for RP use.

MessageYou did use the words "form our new culture" which I felt like sounded a bit like something that could "adjust the culture already in place". This discussion has been had with a few other overenthusiastic people in the past, I feel like. There's an example of it right on the front page: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=555395
Apparently players back then were as unimpressed with such ideas.

Also, with the position the LOD has in this world, we'd remain in the very tippity-top of this world's development index even if we were to decide to be a more continental equivalent of The Bahamas. It's quite hard for me to believe that this world's equivalent of Latvia, Dolgaria, now has to act necessarily Latvia and "harness real life Latvian assets" with its 99 600 000 inhabitants just because they happened to choose that particular cultural pigeonhole.

MessageIts how the RP has operated since the cultural element was implemented. I can also assure you the LOD issue is being looked into. We can't stay on the sidelines anymore.

MessageAlso I must add that the proposed change made in the original would have involved changing the language of Lodamun. Mine simply intends to make what already exists official.

MessageIn terms of the culture, I'm open to trying something out while I would rather the nation stay culturally open in terms of protocols.
In terms of how the executive branch works, I would advocate for the current system to stay. From what I'm aware of, the current system with the legislature choosing a president(both HOS and HOG) in cabinet proposals is actually kind of unique to Lodamun ever since it was used back in the time of the 1st GDR and remained for much of the time til like the 4400s before it was brought back in the mid-late 4500s.

MessageOh, right that too. Just agreeing to use some Canadian-type model for the executive and then sticking to it defeats half the purpose of the game, especially with Lodamun, where regimes changes are about as common as in France.

Random fact: Don't vote yes on a cabinet coalition that doesn't give you the power that you deserve.
