| Research has shown that over-sized farms can prove damaging to the local environment and can, in some circumstances, hinder crop yields. The NDU favours a reversal in current government policy. In order to aid the development and longevity of smaller farms, as well as providing appropriate compensation to farms affected by this regulation, federal funds will be reallocated. A department under the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture, the Rural Development Fund, will be created with the passing of this bill in order to distribute these funds.
