Bill: Housing Act (4634)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Loyalists

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 4636

Description[?]:

We propose to abolish government regulation of rents, and to turn this responsibility over to the parties actually involved in the housing market - tenants and landlords. Further, we propose to introduce private competition into the construction of public housing, thus reducing costs and increasing supply, and to allow private ownership of housing stock.

Andrejs Bordāns

MessageI agree with Article 1 but not Article 2. If we hand housing over to private corporations who have no jurisdiction over the quality or usefulness of the house. I also believe it behooves the government to provide adequate housing and not push it off to the side for others to take care of.

MessageWe disagree; aside from our ideological disagreement on the role of the private sector, we feel that article 1 would not make much sense in the absence of private landlords.

Random fact: "Treaty-locking", or ratifiying treaties that completely or nearly completely forbid any proposals to change laws, is not allowed. Amongst other possible sanctions, Moderation reserves the discretion to delete treaties and/or subject parties to a seat reset if this is necessary in order to reverse a treaty-lock situation.

Random quote: "To the youth of America, I say, beware of being trivialized by the commercial culture that tempts you daily. I hear you saying often that you're not turned on by politics. The lessons of history are clear and portentous. If you do not turn onto politics, politics will turn on you." - Ralph Nader
