Bill: New Azure Two

Details

Submitted by[?]: New Azure

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 4649

Description[?]:

New Azure Two (NA2) is a proposed act of parliament that if passed will implement an opt-out organ donation system.

Justification:
An opt-in system is inefficient as it requires the expenditure of government resources for a social good (organ donations) by forcing people to go through a bureaucracy in order to permit their organs be donated postmortem. In contrast, an opt-out system maximizes social good through presumed consent. It is estimated we could increase organ donation rates up to 99% with an opt-out system — at the same time respecting freedom of choice by allowing people to opt-out of organ donation if desired.

MessageMr Speaker,

The idea that it is a huge level of bureaucracy to opt-in for organ donation is false. It is very simple actually, parents have the option to opt their child in when the child is born, it's as simple as checking a box when filling out paperwork to receive their birth certificate. The other option is very simple as well, you can go to your local National Healthcare Organization office and simply ask to become a donor, and they put you on the list then and there.

By assuming consent, you set a precedent that nobody has the legal rights to their own body. You cannot set that kind of precedent in a nation recognized across Terra for its freedom. We oppose this bill and hope our fellow MPs will as well.

MessageMr. Speaker,

By assuming consent, we save more lives by increasing the rate of organ donations. For those who do not wish to donate, they still have the freedom to revoke consent. We encourage the other parties to vote YES on New Azure One.
