Bill: Income Tax Bill 4731

Details

Submitted by[?]: Beluzia Renewal Party (BRP)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 4732

Description[?]:

The government is able to lower the rates of income tax slightly, in response to debate amongst opposition parties about them.

Unlike those parties, the government is publishing this Bill having taken the whole of the economic picture of Beluzia into account.

This Bill, therefore, should be regarded as one element of several related proposals (the Expenditure Bill 4731, the Luxury Goods Taxation Bill 4731 and the Corporate Tax Bill 4731)

MessageStanton House had previously proposed to lower the rate of taxation for all citizens earning less than 20000 BEL.
The government would have been in favour of that proposal had it not been accompanied by a compensating rise in taxation at the higher levels.

In the view of the BRP, all citizens deserve lower taxes, and those privileged to earn more are already being asked to contribute more than their fair share to the economy. This is balanced by the government'[s lowering of taxes on essential goods (to 0%) and on luxury goods (30% on coming to power, now 20% and a further reduction planned).

The reductions proposed in this Bill are possible because of the government's Welfare Bill 4730 which meant that government expenditure could be reduced (though it had not been planned to do so until after the election).

Random fact: "Treaty-locking", or ratifiying treaties that completely or nearly completely forbid any proposals to change laws, is not allowed. Amongst other possible sanctions, Moderation reserves the discretion to delete treaties and/or subject parties to a seat reset if this is necessary in order to reverse a treaty-lock situation.
