MessageThe whole point of the umbrella debate on our constitution is to consider the views of all parliamentary parties on all relevant issues.

Clearly the national flag, anthem and motto come fall into that category.

In this case, while encouraging the sharing of views of this Assembly, the Alliance has no suggestions to make on any of the three.

MessageThe Social Democrat Party sees no need to change this nation's flag, national anthem and/or motto, as all remain as powerful and meaningful now as when this nation was founded.

MessageIn the absence of any suggestion of a change being desired, the Alliance does not intend to take any further steps concerning flag, anthem or motto.

In fact, all three have very long standing traditions, with very few proposed changes.
The motto has been the subject of the most modification, but has reverted back to the existing one on several occasions.

We intend to leave as is.

MessageAfter a year's debate on this matter, this legislation will now be put to the vote.

A summary of its place within the overall constitutional review is to be found in the Constitutional Review summary Bill:

MessageThe government would like to know what changes the CNP would like to make to Mordusia's flag, anthem or motto?
It must have voted against this Bill for some reason, yet there is nothing in the year-long debate which provides any inkling of desire for change.

If the Leader of the Opposition would like to indicate the issue behind the No vote, then the government might consider opening up a separate debate on the issue, but it is nevertheless disappointing not to have obtained unanimity on this issue after the pains the Alliance went to in order to establish a genuine debate on these constitutional matters rather than pushing through its own preferences - which its majority would have enabled it to do.
