Message | LD reply: SD is open for criticism, but Liberal Democrats are critising like some extremist parties. Please be constructive in your critics for the good of Likatonian people. We are party of social democratic orientation, therefore we believe in controled capitalism in order to bring the best of 2 worlds: communism and capitalism. We are, nevertheless, strongly advocating democracy, so you shouldn't be consirned that SD will ruin it. |

Message | SD reply: LD iterates that nationalisation of banks is - to put it mildly - a very bad and immoderate idea. Firstly, you cannot nationalise some banks and not others. Naturally smaller banks will have to pay higher interest rates to attract creditors and that will harm profits. What pray tell is to stop the government from nationalising other smaller banks in the future? Or playing a game of political interference? Short sellers will drive the share price to zero and consign the small banks to bankruptcy. It doesn't really matter how: the denuding of the private banking industry is a fait accompli. Secondly, the government already exerts influence on private banks. The government uses its capital to buy shares. Where they need to apply more torque, the central bank can just regulate any problems out of existence. What pray tell is the benefit of nationalisation? How is the government better off assuming the risk for all of the bank's toxic assets? The government managers will face the uncertainty of valuing these assets. One thing is certain: taxpayers will be the scapegoat. We remain firmly opposed to the nationalisation of banks. |
