Description[?]:

Cultural protocols and cultural census for Kirlawa, 4762 update. (OOC May 2020)

Introduction to Kirlawa, and pre-game history:

Kirlawa is culturally more or less Terra's version of Ireland -- but fortunately does have a much more peaceful history than the real-world Ireland does.
Our two main cultural/ethnic bases, are indigenous Celda (Celtic) tribes, and long-ago settlers from Luthori (Particracy's England), a nation who had been vastly more powerful and influential in the past, with colonies all over the world.
People from various other lands have moved to (and in some cases through) Kirlawa over the millennia as well, but these are our two main ethnic groups, leading to an overall Enlii (Anglo-Celtic) national culture.
Aloria, our neighbouring nation to the west, likewise has in large part a Celda background; although they're more Draddwyr (Welsh), while we're more Kilani (Irish).

Ethnicity:
Kirlawa has received many immigrants from all over the world throughout the centuries; but by far the most prevalent ethnicity -- the first thing that comes to mind for many people in the world when they think of "a Kirlawan" ethnically -- is Enlii ( = Anglo-Celtic); a term which encompasses Celda, Luthori, or especially mixtures thereof ( = Celtic, English, or mixtures thereof). This accounts for over two-thirds of Kirlawans.

Kirlawan ethnicity census:

44% Celda ( = Celtic; also includes Enlii ( = mixed Anglo-Celtics) who consider themselves closer to Celda)
>>> 32% Kilani ( = Irish)
>>> 8% Draddwyr ( = Welsh; prominent in Aloria, our western neighbour)
>>> 4% Caldorian ( = Scottish)
30% Luthori / North Artanian ( = English; also includes Enlii ( = mixed Anglo-Celtics) who consider themselves closer to Luthori)
6% Gao-Showa ( = East Asian)
>>> 4% Kunihito ( = Japanese)
>>> 2% Sekowan ( = Ryukyuan)
6% Istalian ( = Italian)
3% Danskha ( = Finnish)
2% Kundrati ( = Basque-Roman blend)
2% Canrillaise ( = French)
1% Hutori ( = Canadian)
1% Dissuwan ( = Hungarian)
1% Zergonese ( = Croatian)
1% Hugalonese ( = Slovenian)
3% various mixtures of two or more of the above (other than Enlii ( = mixture of Anglo and Celtic) )

Naming:
Characters should have mostly Anglo-Celtic, Celtic (especially Irish), and/or English names, please;
with, as above, a small number of Japanese (or Ryukyuan), Italian, Finnish, etc. names also being OK if you would like.
It is recommended that party names be in English (or Irish), please.

For help with names (English and Irish names should be familiar to just about everyone, but, just in case) :

Most of our ethnic groups are spread rather evenly throughout Kirlawa.
With the three natural exceptions, that, most of our people of Draddwyr heritage tend to live in Uwakah and western Merkan (that is, closest to the border with Aloria);
most of our people of Kundrati heritage tend to live in Nuchtmark (that is, closest to the border with Kundrati);
and most of our people of Danskha heritage tend to live in or near the city of Ihmetellä (in Dirguzia), which is named in their language.

=== === === === === === === ===

Language:
Luthori ( = English) is Kirlawa's lingua franca (or rather "lingua anglica", sorry!) ;)
Kilani ( = Irish Gaelic) is the most prevalent of the minority languages.

Nearly three-quarters of Kirlawans speak Luthori as their first language; and an overwhelming majority (99%) can speak it to at least some degree, as either a first, second, or third language.

Primary or first language of Kirlawans:
68% Luthori ( = English)
21% Kilani ( = Irish Gaelic)
4% Draddwyr ( = Welsh; prominent in Aloria, our western neighbour)
2% Caldorian ( = Scottish Gaelic)
2% Istalian ( = Italian)
2% Kunikata ( = Japanese)
1% Danskhed ( = Finnish)

Our nation's province names and city names have gloriously stood for millennia; and we declare our national culture/language to be such, that these names are to be considered permanently compatible with it.

=== === === === === === === ===

Religion:
Kirlawa's religious scene is primarily a roughly equal, and peaceful, three-way mix of Hosian ( = Christian), Secular, and Pagan.

Kirlawan religion census:

29% Hosian ( = Christian)
>>> 15% Aurorian Church (the Holy Apostolic Hosian Church of Terra; = Catholic Church)
>>> >>> 14% Selucian Rite ( = Roman Catholic Church)
>>> >>> 1% other Rites
>>> 7% Bishopal ( = Anglican or Episcopalian)
>>> 4% Society of Brethren ( = Quaker; founded in our neighbour Aloria)
>>> 3% Veritan / Almighty Path (an indigenous religious movement in Kirlawa, originating over a millennium and a half ago)

41% Secular / no religion

27% Pagan (nature worship, etc.)
>>> 21% Nature worship
>>> 4% Felinism (Cult of the Sacred Feline; a cat-centred religious movement that had originated in Barmenia)
>>> 2% Celda ( = Celtic) paganism

3% Kamism ( = Shinto). Some also practise Daenism ( = Buddhism) alongside.

MessageOOC: Moderation has asked us, as with all nations of Terra, to post an update on our cultural protocols. This is roughly the same as the previous one, although I introduced a few changes: a little increase in the number of secular people, as a result of the "advancement through science" that Kirlawa has been doing during the past decades, and also a little increase in the number of Kilani native speakers. Any other suggestion is welcome to be discussed
