| Message | We are *not* paying our criminals. They committed a crime. Through work they repay society for that crime, in return they gain the opportunity of free education and a roof over their heads and 3 meals a day, a little work doesn't seem to be all that much to ask. Because they receive the benefits of further education, food, clothing, accomodation etc, and are guaranteed a release date (depending upon crime) and are not looked upon as being owned by the State, they are by definition not slaves. Slave noun. One who is the property of, and entirely subject to, another person, whether by capture, purchase, or birth; a servant completely divested of freedom and personal rights. (OOC: OED) |
