Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

| Traditionally, the Alliance might be expected to claim all cabinet positions as it holds an absolute majority. However, the Alliance is proposing that Parliament adopts a coalition of parties in proportion to the votes obtained at the last election. Unfortunately, this leaves the NDP with no cabinet representation and the CDP with only one position, but if the alternative is a cabinet formed entirely of Alliance MPs then this should be acknowledged as more than fair. Normally discussion would take place with individual parties before nominating cabinet positions. However, as the CDP proposed a cabinet in the last session with only one position for themselves, we are assuming that they are happy to retain this post. As for the other posts, the Alliance believes that, given its majority, it is its prerogative to select the seats of its choice and then propose that the MLP fills the other posts. |
