Bill: Police Reform Act (2216)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Deltarian Nationalist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2218
Description[?]:
By moving all policing duties to the military we can cut away a large chunk of bureaucracy. We could combine the two commands and get rid of those whos roles would be in duplicate. This would not mean that we would have fully tooled up soldiers policing our streets as the soldiers on police duties would only be issued with police grade weapons and would undergo similar forms of training that current police officers go through. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The nation's policy on the separation of the police and the military.
Old value:: A civilian police force is in place and the military may be called in to help in serious emergencies.
Current: A civilian police force is in place, backed up by the military.
Proposed: The military acts as a de-facto police force, with powers of arrest.

Message | No. The military and the police serve two distinctly seperate functions and should not be expected to carry out the same operations. The police are there to uphold the law of the land, and in doing so protect the population from themselves. The military are there to protect the population from outside aggressors and should only become involved internally should there be large scale riots that our fully trained police are unable to handle. |

Message | But this would mean a police regiment would be created with the same training as the regular police but the administration would be shared with the military. |

Message | The jobs of the police and military are radically different. They require very different points of view when running and so a single leadership would be ineffective. |
Date | 14:27:56, April 20, 2006 CET | From | Deltarian Nationalist Party | To | Debating the Police Reform Act (2216) |
Message | I don't see why, military has always had its own police force that operates in a similar way to the regular police, this would just be an extension of the Military Police with a few new guidelines. |
