Message | We do not support this bill. Children work during the summer to earn additional pocket money, they learn valuable experience this way. Since we already have a compulsory education system until the age of 16 there is already no danger of any child forced to work full time. Where would our quaint sea side shops be without the paid help of local children during the summer months? Our tourist economy could not survive. |

Message | We believe that what this law forbids is child labour and doesn't discourage say, part-time jobs and the like. Rather, it disallows children to be used as a means of cheap labour, such as in factories on assembly lines and the like. This is why we continue to vote to ban child labour. |

Message | This is a matter of interpretation. When we first cam accross the law years ago we interpreted it as you do. However there is nothing in the term "child labour" which means cheap labour in factories etc. Child Labour simply means children working, and to us that includes part time jobs. Preventing children from being used as cheap labour in unwelcoming workplaces such as a factory can be done through the additional regulations available under the present law. |
