Bill: Immigration Act of 2066

Details

Submitted by[?]: Proletariat Revolution Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 2067

Description[?]:

This will stand separately from our refugee bill, as immigrants come through official channels and their very existance isn't threatened by aggrevating circumstances, such as political discord, civil unrest, wide-spread persecution etc...

Likatonia will maintain an open door policy for immigration, making it a fairly simple process for immigrants to be granted a permanant resident status and eventually citizenship.

Immigrants coming alone or in groups, are to be the the age if majority, which is 16 here in Likatonia. If they are minors, they are to be accompanied by parents or guardians.

There is no maximum age.

Candidates will still be judged on certain merits.

Immigrants will be judged based on:

- level of education (with a minimum requirement of a secondary education for all adults)

- language ability. Ideally, there should be a minimum understanding of the Likatonian language

- they are required to consent to background checks. Those who pose a signficant threat to Likatonia's safety will be rejected and sent back to their originating nation.

A signficant threat would be: having been charged with terrorism, attempted murder, any number of murder charges, any form of assault and/or sexual assault and/or theft involving any form of weapon.

- Job skills. While this is secondary, preference will be given to immigrants who come bearing skills that are in great demand in Likatonia.

Our immigration policy will also recognize families and will not break up the families, unless one of the incoming members doesn't pass the background check.

Children will not be subject to any of the checks. Only children who are over 13 will be subject to the background checks.

Elderly parents and relatives who have families who have settled in Likatonia will also be given partial preference as long as their family have put in a petition along side their relatives' immigration request.

MessageWe can support this. Though it seems a little unfair that those seeking a better life have to have had some benefits in the first place...

Messagesorry, i retract that second statement. I have checked all the nations of the world (yes, it took ages) and they all have compulsary secondary education, so it would be somebody's own fault if they didnt have that.

MessageI thought it would be a reasonable expectation and if they don't have it, we won't look at them unless they are either a refugee or still a student.

MessageUh...LLP? Why did you vote against this? By voting no, you've endorsed the idea that we have to let in uneducated criminals...

MessageWell, the criminal part bothers me a bit, but less than the uneducated.

If they're willing to work and behave, who cares?

MessageBut we have compolsory high school education on the books. Those who are under the age if 18 are exempt because they are considered children.

Besides, all the other nations have compulsory high school, so that isn't unreasonable. Further, if you look closer, this is styled so that those who come in can contirbute to society. Yes, it seems unfair, but this isn't a charitable organisation; this is a nation with rules.

Yes, my name is the equality and liberty party - and that is for the citizens of Likatonia. Our first duty is to protect the citizens.

Those who are under educated as adults may pose a social-threat to the structure by being unemployable and being a burden on the system and upping the finacial costs (ahem - PP, you don't want to see more legislations that ask for more money, then vote for something that stresses fiscal conservatism).

MessageRefugee Resolution 1 - read this. It is to elaborate on the refugee act and is teh other half of this. Do not vote no because of the seemingly strict rules without noting that this is for the other half who come here.

MessageYes, you had the right idea; you were just very vague in your wording. I liked it and thought maybe I could take the ball and run with it. ^^

MessageWe support this bill. The people who wish to live here should give something back to this country and not just take from it.
