Description[?]:

Calpurnian Law on Atheism

Quirites,

According to the latest census nearly one third of Selucia's population does not adhere to any religion! This shocking statistic shows the corrupt state in which the Republic has arrived, and certainly explains why there have been attempts to impose state atheism on the Selucian people.

As far as we're concerned, atheism and monotheism are both sides of the same coin. They both reject the Immortal Gods and adopt a rigid, dogmatic, intolerant, and totalitarian framework that sees the indigenous religions of Selucia with contempt and treats the Cultores as irredeemable buffoons.

But as we've recently learned, atheism is at the present moment a greater threat to our liberties and democracy. Atheism breeds communism, and communism, not Hosianism, is what currently seeks to overthrow the Republic and install its own totalitarian regime. We thus call for an end to this vile practice of religious non-adherence.

With the passing of this bill all Selucians are required to be registered members of at least one religious organization, irrespective of its beliefs. There will be no restriction on the formation of atheist or agnostic religious organizations, but they will all be subject to the Republic's legislation on religious matters.

MessageMembers of the Assembly,

This is an absurd and maniacal attempt to control the population, while criminalizing nothing more and nothing less than a third of the total population of Selucia. This government, which considers itself superior to everything and everyone, intends to impose its religious vision by trampling on the rights and freedoms enjoyed by all our citizens. Choosing to point to an invisible enemy, in this case, irreligion, they will seek to blame him for all the evils that haunt Selucia. In this way, the government will have the names and surnames of those who identify as irreligious, and will be able to continue with its purge. We will not allow it. An "atheist religious organization" is nonsense in itself, because atheism in itself is the non-belief in a religion, it is not just another religion.
Similarly, the accusations - false, again, but allowing you to put the bullseye on the heads of our citizens - that atheists "reject the Immortal Gods and adopt a rigid, dogmatic, intolerant, and totalitarian framework that sees the indigenous religions of Selucia with contempt and treats the Cultores as irredeemable buffoons. " It is a fallacy of colossal dimensions, which Mr. Calpurnius says without shame even though he is aware of it, and which he intends once again to criminalize and attack a third of our citizens. It is shameful. And if the law is unfair, we will attack the law.

Ave Selucia! Quod fuimus, sumus, et quia sumus, erimus!

MessageQuirites,

The communists again show their true colors as the enemies of the Gods, spouting lies and deceit in this most sacred hall. It was not long ago that the communists imposed state atheism on the Selucian people when the vast majority of Selucians are not atheists, and now they have the audacity to claim that atheism is not a religion, and even that atheism is non-belief in a religion! In all my years I have not heard such absurdities. Atheism is, by its very name, a lack of belief in any Gods. It's obvious that you can be an atheist and still belong to a religion, as indeed there are many Pagan atheists. If atheist religious organizations could not exist, then how does Quiris Priscus explain the existence of the Selucian Union of Atheists and Agnostics, or the Secular Humanist Federation of Selucia, and many other atheist and secular humanist organizations?

But perhaps expecting logic and common sense from communists is too much for their small brains. There's no use expecting more from people who clearly are not capable of more.

MessageThe NPLS would like to point out that tolerance and liberty, both in politics and in religion, are the hallmarks of a democracy, not a fascist right-wing dictatorship as Selucia is fast becoming or a communist society, as it has never been. The pack of lies presented by the Government as debate is likely a sign of their small-minded and authoritarian natures, rather than any deliberate attempt at dishonesty, but it must still be ignored by all citizens with half a brain.

MessageMr. Calpurnius

We never expected anything from the Selucian Traditional Movement, but we did expect at least a bit of respect for elected representatives of the citizens. However, we see that you have no education nor respect for others.
We are not offended by the word "communists". Although our party is not a communist one, and indeed some minor communist organizations are within us, we do not see it as an insult. So your party can keep using it and lying.
Talking about the duty of the State, it is precisely to let every single citizen believe in whatever they want to. That is why the state should promote a non-believing way of life, while respecting the freedom of each of its citizens to belong to any religion that respects human rights and basic dignity.
We have nothing else to discuss with the MTS while their words stay there.
