Bill: Foreign Workers Bill 4816

Details

Submitted by[?]: Alliance Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 4817

Description[?]:

The government proposes a policy change affecting the use of foreign workers.

It is felt that the current policy creates unfairness between native and foreign workers who perform the same role.

To address this, the Alliance prefers the policy being proposed in this bill rather than leveling the playing field by treating all job applicants the same, irrespective of nationality,

The rationale behind this proposal is not a racial one, but one which minimises unemployment amongst our citizens whilst still enabling foreign workers to be employed (on the same terms as nationals would be).

MessageThis bill unjustly discriminates against migrants who wish to move to Mordusia in order to pursue a better quality of life. Migrants should be treated equally to allow them to follow that goal and also improve our country.

MessageIt is unfortunate that there can be misunderstanding based on ambiguous language.

We have a law which states "Anyone receives nationality but immigrants must pass a test to gain nationality."
The intention of this law is to address the very point raised by the Liberal Alliance - ie to avoid unjust discrimination.
Once nationality is achieved, those citizens become "native" in the sense intended by the policy proposed by this bill.

The restriction on "foreign" nationals applies to those who are not nationals in Mordusia - for example, citizens from other countries crossing borders daily to obtain employment - which is perfectly acceptable so long as our own citizens are not disadvantaged which is what this bill is addressing) - or people temporarily living in Mordusia without seeking to become Mordusian nationals.

Perhaps the Liberal Alliance could consider changing their vote on the basis of this explanation?

MessageThe government states in the bill text that the bill "[Levels] the playing field... irregardless of nationality," yet the bill discriminates against foreign workers by limiting their access to Mordusia. In what way does this achieve a level playing field?

MessageMay we politely suggest that the Liberal Alliance party re-reads the bill text?

We state that the Alliance PREFERS the policy being advocated in this bill....RATHER than leveling the playing field
