Bill: Food Anarchy Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Libertarian Alcoholic Party II

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2220

Description[?]:

"I long for the days before food regulation, when we could head to the local fast-food restaurant and pick up a good old Mystery Burger", reminisces pensioner Betty O'Culinary. "We had no idea what we were eating. It was so exciting! If there's one thing I want to do before I die, it's eat another one of those mysterious burgers."

"Shelf life, Schmelf life!" exclaims hobo and food expert Gonzo "Leftovers" Lawrence. "Out of date food doesn't really taste that bad, and the side effects of eating it are marginal. Imagine the money the government could save by firing all its food safety inspectors! Maybe then it could help get me and my friends off the street. The Food Anarchy Bill is win-win. The government saves revenue by not enforcing shelf lives, food companies don't have to throw away their sub-standard produce, and ordinary people get tons of tasty, cheap, vintage food!"

MessageHaha, there are some good points, but then there's the problem that people have no idea what they are eating, which can surely be a challenge to individual freedom. Otherwise, I quite like it.

MessageThe individual freedom to sell mystery food is greater than the individual freedom to know what mystery food is.

MessageOn second thoughts, I can't really say that I am a fan of this at all. I'm going to have to vote no.

Random quote: "I worked at a factory owned by Germans, at coal pits owned by Frenchmen, and at a chemical plant owned by Belgians. There I discovered something about capitalists. They are all alike, whatever the nationality. All they wanted from me was the most work for the least money that kept me alive. So I became a communist." - Nikita Khrushchev
