MessageMr. Speaker,

My government has received thousands of letters from Luthorian women, complaining that their fiances and prospective husbands have been lured away by the charms of Duka-worshipping, dark-eyed, saree-wearing enchantresses. We have agreed that this is a serious problem facing the country, and have proposed this bill to end this threat once and for all.

Tommy Brewer
Prime Minister

MessageMr. Speaker,

Perhaps the most surprising thing about the Prime Minister's claim is that it is far from the most deranged thing he has said to date.

MessageStatement released by Cedric Poots, Private Political Secretary to the Duke of Middenridding:

His Grace reports that he has not observed this phenomenon amongst his own social circle, although he knows women of the upper-middle and middle classes can be too easily seduced by exotic men, and shares the the Prime Minister's concern about some of the things that might be going on.

Nevertheless, His Grace is of the opinion that banning inter-racial marriages would be a step too far. For a Luthorian lady to diminish her social status by marring beneath her is tragedy enough, but to go on to deny her the respectability of marriage is, in His Grace's view, a cruelty too far.

A better option would be to limit unnecessary immigration by persons of foreign cultures and religions, and to provide girls with a firmer moral education both at school and at home.

MessageNews from outside the debate: Several EF! volunteer groups were overheard on various railway journeys discussing the dangers of the enchantresses. One fellow passenger spoke of "serious alarm" spreading across the trains about the issue. EF! leadership did not comment when asked for a formal position.

MessageThe prime minister has dismissed the duke's concerns, stating that he ascribes 'completely alien' behaviour to Luthorian women. "Perhaps he should have spent less time with the Kafuris and Jelbics and more with his fellow Luthorians, if he wished to know what this country is truly like. The reason his sister ran off with a Lodamunian was obviously down to her Lourennish upbringing."

OOC: "has not observed this phenomenon amongst his own social circle", of course, is being taken to refer to the specifically *male* phenomenon targeted by the bill.
