Details
Submitted by[?]: Green Manalishi Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2226
Description[?]:
"We can sum it up in one sentence: Our technical civilization has just reached its greatest level of savagery. We will have to choose, in the more or less near future, between collective suicide and the intelligent use of our scientific conquests.......Before the terrifying prospects now available to humanity, we see even more clearly that peace is the only goal worth struggling for. This is no longer a prayer but a demand to be made by all peoples to their governments -- a demand to choose definitively between hell and reason." 1. There is no moral justification for the use of nuclear arms. Even possessing nuclear arms sends the signal that the nation would consider indiscriminate mass murder. 2. The world would be more secure without them. "In an all-out nuclear war, more destructive power than in all of World War II would be unleashed every second during the long afternoon it would take for all the missiles and bombs to fall. A World War II every second--more people killed in the first few hours than all the wars of history put together. The survivors, if any, would live in despair amid the poisoned ruins of a civilization that had committed suicide." 3. Long term costs. Nuclear weaponry costs include research, development, testing and maintenance. Other costs include uranium related illnesses to workers, damage to the land, storage of waste, deaths from nuclear polution. The use of nuclear weaponry leaves a legacy of destruction. 4. Unprecedented destructive capacity. Nuclear weaponry has the power to annihilate whole species. 5. Taking a lead on the subject. Jelbania has a great chance to join the leaders of this movement, assuming our global responsibility to protect terra. The less nuclear weapons in the world, the less available for terrorists and rogue states. |

Message | We would also appeal to the consistency of the BBP on the basis of their membership in: World Peace Society Environmental Protection Organization International Organization for World Health Promotion of Science and Reason - "We believe should be used for the good of mankind, not war, not for financial profit but to help improve the world." International Human Rights Movement and generally as internationalists and supporters of making nuclear power illegal. |

Message | (ooc) Can nations go to war in Particracy? If so, what (if any) impact do the nuclear / biological weapons have on the outcome of the war? |

Message | ooc: (from the FAQ link) Q: According to the rules of this game, can some parties in a nation force an RP war with another, or do all the parties have to agree? It doesn't seem quite fair to me, that one set of parties can force another to RP a war. A: All roleplayed events must be done with mutual consent. When war becomes a game feature, however, this will of course not be the case. |

Message | I think the maker is trying to make a war simulation but not yet. Personally, I do not like nuclear weapons. I would prefer precision bombs right where we need them. However, I do not think this is smart. Like bringing not a knife, but a cane to a gunfight. I would not want to get into a fight, but frankly, that is not always our decision. |

Message | If nuclear weapons were designed as a deterrent to war then theyve hardly worked if that's what the FCP were getting at (?) Also, being prepared to commit indiscriminate mass murder on a huge scale as retaliation is wrong on the most basic of humanist levels, let alone the fact that this view is shared by all major religions. |

Message | To the BBP, we will do whatever we choose to when it is in the interests of the electorate to highlight opposition inconsistency. We just found it interesting that the BBP was part of a) a peace group b) an international aggressive alliance a) science & reason b) guns & lack of reason etc. |

Message | Nuclear weapons policy really tugs at your morals and ethics. We would love to stop the development of nuclear weapons, but the vast majority of nations in Terra reserve the right to develop them. So, it seems that it is essential to be a part of this crazy arms race, in fear that we may someday need them to protect our people. In order to have a more balanced approach, we propose the following: For Article 1: We support changing the policy to: "The nation shall never use nuclear weapons in warfare unless another nation uses them first." This was the official Jelbanian policy for many years. For Article 2: We've always been a little confused with this. So, this allows us to develop them, but not "produce" them?? Nevertheless, we are leaning to support this change because it allows our scientists to work on and research nuclear weaponry (without having a needless stockpile). That way if the time comes when we need them, our scientists will be experienced. |
