Bill: Religious Equality Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Secular Democratic Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2226

Description[?]:

Currently, two laws stand in the way of true religious and irreligious freedom in the Republic. Firstly, the governement selectively controls which religious organisations are allowed to send missionaries to the region. If we are to be truly free, this wall must be removed, and we must allow all religious to enter and preach, no matter how offended we are by their teachings.

Secondly, religions must be taxed as corporations. As it stands, religions are easily turned from the path of attempting to discover universal truth to the path of profit. Also, this tax window unfairly burdens the atheistic and irregious of society who are unable to take advantage of such a position.

In order for true religious freedom we need to allow all religions, and the absence of religion, to exist in a fair playing field.

MessageIt has been seen in history that some nations use missionaries as tools to influence other nations, althoough w should welcome those who look after the spiritual needs of their herd, we should be weary of those who have an agenda in mind.

MessageThe Order does not wish to have to disclose it's finances.

Nor do we wish to allow groups like the Church of Scientology to enter freely into Al'Badara to promote their "religion".

MessageFor the record, the taxation of religion was suggested because it will act as a deterent for religions such as the aformentioned Scientology, as it would make it more difficult to convert religion into a money making enterprise. That, and simply making an appeal to a being which probably does not exist is a pretty poor reason for avoiding the taxation other groups must pay.
