Bill: OOC/RP: General strike

Details

Submitted by[?]: Conservative Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 5012

Description[?]:

Convinced that socialism can never be won through dietary means following the failures of their time in government, the LSP and Adderley himself have resorted to extradietary action and intend to bring Luthorian democracy down by a general strike. Upper- and middle-class strikebreakers are called for and volunteer across the nation, ending in disaster when the Fort William-Swanstead express derails in the Orange coalfields as a result of its volunteer crew’s poorly-trained incompetence, killing 20 passengers and injuring many more.

With the press blaming sabotage for the crash, the government responds by passing an Emergency Act banning revolutionary strikes and radical unions. The Adderley family home in Fort William is firebombed and Lady Adderley killed, but any sympathy this may have gained is rendered moot by the bombing of a Fort William mansion block by a working-class paramilitary that kills dozens.

Outside of Fort William, the strike quickly collapses as moderate union leaders who opposed the vote for a general strike in the Trades Union Congress regain the upper hand and defect from the radicalised LSP to work with the Liberal government. Socialism is effectively defeated as a major political force. In the years to come the working-class areas of Fort William will become effective no-go zones, with the police establishing a ring of steel similar to that in RL London, while following repeated terrorist attacks the Diet evacuates to the historic capital of Lorcaster.

Please provide your thoughts. Following comments a final RP proposal will be put forward for vote.

MessageNice - however I think it would be more in-depth if we had an alliance of anarchist to far-right (WR but more extremist on everything) paramilitaries who would take up arms against the working-class. While not working with or endorsing the government, the two parties wouldn’t attack each other for the duration of the strike.

MessageEdit: Wouldn’t the monarchy’s popularity be harmed in the working classes, since they could be considered the elite of the elite?

Let’s see if I’d take advantage of that, calling for a referendum.
