Bill: Alcoholic Beverages Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Green Manalishi Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2228

Description[?]:

a) we believe in more quality control in this area to secure the safety of our citizens

b) the right to drink alcohol (ooc: as long as it's not crap like Southern Comfort, Bud, Fosters, Carling etc. though unfortunately there's no specific legislation for these) is a matter of civil liberties. if kids want to get drunk at 14, why shouldn't they? As Twain once said "I've never let schooling interfere with my education" (note: this quote is likely to be regurgitated often in the future by the GMP because we like it).

MessageQuestion: since you are ok with kids getting booz(I am ok with that), what are you protecting the people from by liscenses? Seems a little criss-crossy.

BTW, I like Mark Twain, too. Is he the guy that said that wise people but all their eggs in one basket, but watch that basket closely?

MessageProtecting the quality of what alcohol is sold. Once we ensure this then we feel that we have played our part in the mutual relationship between state and citizen by ensuring the provision of safe produce. The decision and responsibility to consume alcohol in the first place should belong to the citizen.

Not sure if that quote is Twain or not, but he certainly has a lot attributed to him, so wouldn't be surprised. Another favourite is:

"Get your facts right first, and then you can distort them as much as you please."

MessageWhy do the people not ensure the quality? They can taste; they know what they like. The quality does not need to be protected.

Messageit was one of those absract concepts again FCP, should the GMP directly point them out in the future? Also, we're not talking about food, but drink.

Messagethe idea was - why should someone have to taste a really bad drink/ potentially harmful drink to know it's that bad, when we could just protect them from having to do so in the first place?

MessageWe do not agree with allowing children to consume alcohol, although we do believe in licensing its sale. Possibly you can try again with this bill, without removing the age clause.
