Message | 16 is too young, no one has the maturity at 16 to be an effecitive adult member of the community at 16. 18 is a much better age. |

Message | Rubbish ! What difference does two years make to a young person's maturity? Not a lot I would wager. |

Message | Ah, but there is 16 & 17 year olds are still trying to determine who they are and the experiences in this 16 & 17 age bracket help them define who they are. How can we expect a person to have the responsibilities (as well as the rights) of an adult at a time when they are still trying to forge their own unique identity? This is bad for their developement. How much difference does 2 years make? depends.. 14-16 alot, 16-18, not as much as 14-16 but still vital 18+ not as much again. |

Message | I don't think you ever stop learning about life and therefore cannot support a fixed age where you are deemed to be a child one day and an adult the next. This concept is bizarre to me. |

Message | Exactly, it's called experience, but there's laws that have to define who is considered an adult in the laws of the land. Age is one of the only factors in determining maturity that we can have as a givernment that has any sort of accuracy that does not require copious amount of expenditure to acheive |

Message | We are against any laws that separate "minors" from adults, especially when discussing crime and punishment. Everyone should be equal under the eyes of the law. If a "child" of 14 years pulls a trigger and kills another human being, we do not consider it a defence that he is not mature enough to have thought his actions through. The full weight of the justice department should descend on the little shit's shoulder's with a one punishment fits all approach.
