On 24 September 5119, a few days after the inauguration of Prime Minister Palmer, The BC organised a protest in the capital city of Fort Williams, close to the Imperial Diet. Around 250 000 people showed up at the protest. After a fiery speech where Straughan said the government was "illegitimate", a group of 10 to 20 thousand protesters pushed through police lines and entered the Imperial Diet. Some protesters threw stones or items at the police. The army, stationed inside and outside the Imperial Diet, shot protesters who tried to enter the institution. Of the 2,000 soldiers on site, 100 decided to lay down their arms and join the protesters. The vast majority of the protesters were pushed back with difficulty, but some made it into the halls of the institution. Among the security forces, around 123 police officers were injured and 1 was killed by gunshots. 3 soldiers were also injured Among protesters, 32 were killed and 335 are injured, 127 by firearms. Edward Straughan said "The extremist government wanted to kill protesters, that's why they sent the army. This was a mostly peaceful protest, the government has blood on its hands. The people are angry and the government is sending the army! Shame on them! Soon there will be a revolution! " |
