Description[?]:
At approximately 7:23 a.m., Yasutaka Matsuhama, Director General of the Imperial Household Agency, announced that His Imperial Majesty the Emperor had passed away at the Takeuchi Palace, at the age of 82, ending an era of "Ansetsu" that had lasted since 5107. This afternoon, His Majesty's eldest son, His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince Tadakiyo, 56, is scheduled to take part in the coronation ceremony. His Imperial Majesty's health has been on the decline for the past several years, and there have been frequent concerns about his health within the government, as he has been absent from events such as the Imperial Navy and Air Force joint special review ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the accession of Emperor Eiken in 5037 and visits to Narinomiya Grand Shrine, which honors successive Emperors. |
