Message | Mr Speaker, “Mighty Luthorian lungs” indeed. The RfL will obviously need those to preach their extremist policies, which I should hope for the sake of Luthori, fall on deaf ears. |

Message | Honorable Speaker and fellow members of parliament, I rise today to voice my strong opposition to the proposed law to ban tobacco products. While I appreciate the intentions behind this proposal, I believe that it is misguided and will ultimately do more harm than good. First and foremost, let us not forget that tobacco is a legal product. People have the right to choose what they consume and what they do not. Banning tobacco products would be an infringement on this basic freedom. We must remember that prohibition has never worked in the past, and it is unlikely to work in this case either. Moreover, let us consider the impact that such a ban would have on the economy. The tobacco industry provides employment to thousands of people, from farmers to manufacturers to distributors. A ban on tobacco would result in massive job losses and economic disruption. Furthermore, banning tobacco would create a black market for tobacco products. Criminals would take advantage of the ban and start selling tobacco products illegally, without any regard for quality or safety. This would pose a significant risk to public health. In addition, let us remember that tobacco is already heavily regulated. There are already laws in place to prevent tobacco companies from marketing to children and to ensure that tobacco products are sold in a safe and regulated manner. We should focus on enforcing these laws, rather than implementing a ban. Lastly, we must acknowledge that smoking is a public health issue. However, a ban on tobacco products is not the solution. We must instead focus on educating people about the dangers of smoking and providing them with the resources and support they need to quit. In conclusion, I urge my fellow members of parliament to reject this proposal to ban tobacco products. It is an infringement on personal freedom, it will harm the economy, it will create a black market, and it will not solve the public health issues associated with smoking. Instead, let us focus on enforcing existing regulations and providing people with the support they need to make healthy choices. Thank you. Eric Grown, MP. |
