Bill: Equal Opportunity Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Catholic Workers Union

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2257

Description[?]:

The Left believes strongly that all children should be given the same opportunity in education so that they are all equally prepared for life. What they do with their life afterwards is less of a concern, for the DLF does not seek an exact equality of means. But it will continue to support an equality of opportunity regardless of race, sex, creed, orientation, or financial fortune or deprivation.

In the field of higher education, the Left will yield to the legality of private institutions so long as tuition in all higher education schools is entirely subsidized without any debt to the student.

MessageAgain, a split opinion on our party. We support Article 1, however, we have issue with Article 2. If a student or parent wish to have or wish for their children to have a religous oriented education, then they should be able to.

MessageHold on, we meant Article 3, didn't even see Article 2, which is insane.

MessageAgain, we respectfully disagree with the MLP. We do not understand why parents should be able, for the right amount of money, to give their children an unfair advantage in life by sending them to a private school which they obviously see as far superior to a public one. This perplexes us. They should send their children to the same schools the poor do, and work together from there to advance and improve public education for all children. By allowing the powerful to opt out of the system, we remove the most vocal interest group from the battle for better public schools and further erode national unity.

MessageWhy shouldn't a child be able to receive a better education if they are fortunate enough to receive one? Creating such a massive public school system would hamper the progress of some of our most brilliant youth, and would just lead to an overall decline in our school system. In order for Telamon continue to be the thriving Commonwealth it is today, we need innovation - something which a private school system allows.

MessageI most heartily concur with the rt Hon. gentleman. Private and religous schooling is an important facet of the school system. By forcing all children together, you A) prevent the bright from getting ahead and B) prevent the less-brilliant from catching up. This move would destroy years of progress in the Telamon educational system. As minister for education, I must stand opposed to this measure.

MessageWe wish to pursue this debate at a later date at a time and place where an extended conversation can more adequately be had. Suffice to say that we can not more vigorously oppose the statements of the two majority parties, and look forward to trouncing them in a full and thrilling debate on the Parliament floor when this bill is brought back to discussion in the next legislative term.
