Bill: Election Reform Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Catholic Workers Union
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2257
Description[?]:
The present length of our terms leaves very little time for debate and subjects the nation to elections on a repeated and unsubstainable cycle. This does not leave the government much time to govern without again worrying about reelection. We believe that a far more satisfactory length is four years, a length to be enacted after the end of this term if this bill should pass. (OOC: I've played in three nations and the great thing about Telamon is the willingness of the other parties to actually debate issues. It would be nice if we could have more time to do that without worrying about putting bills immediately to vote to improve our standings on issues. And in RL, frequent elections hurt the process by making politicians always afraid of doing any actual governing. Look at the U.S. with House elections! The British model is much more appealing, I think they have election only every five years, correct?). |
