MessageExcuse my ignorance of the British system, but what's the privy council?

MessageThe real privy council used to be a sort of 'who's who' in the kingdom. It carried out most government functions and declared the succession upon the death of the monarch prior to the Act of Settlement (1701). Today, minor regulatory changes and states of emergency may be declared by the privy council. Privy council status is given to the leaders of the major parties and sometimes for long service to the kingdom (thus Ian Paisley and David Trimble are privy councillors) and also secretaries of state (heads of government departments). Technically, only four privy councillors are needed for a quorum. On the advice and consent of the monarch, the privy council can issue orders-in-council or orders of council in the absence thereof. Our proposed privy council would be similar to that of Commonwealth countries like Canada or Australia. These countries themselves lack a privy council, however, their PM's are made privy councillors of the British privy council. This is roughly the model I intended to follow. I meant it as a point of protocol.

MessagePlease excuse us poor common people in the opposition from any planned protocol. We prefer our common titles, those being the names we were given at birth. We have no time for titles of nobility and fluff while the people suffer.

MessageUmm, it doesn't change your name; you are called the Rt Hon. so-and-so and you get a ',PC' behind your name (vis-a-vis the cabinet).
