Message | Why are you raising taxes on essential goods like bread and clothing, and lowering taxes on luxury goods? This is class elitism. You have declared war on the lower class. They will respond in turn. (That's a threat). |

Message | I am lowering an unreasonable GST and creating an insignificant sales tax. Take, for example, a pound of bananas. Say they cost $1,26. Bananas are not GST'd so they would only get a 5 per cent tax, so they would cost $1,32. Six pence is not unreasonable. Now we will look at our culinary friend, the vanilla bean: under the old system, a bottle of two vanilla beans costing $11,39 would have a 30 per cent GST. Thus it would cost $14,81. Under the new system, it would cost $13,75. Whilst I still think $11,39 is unreasonable for a vanilla bean, there is not much difference either way and I implore the Rt Hon. genlteman to have the sense to support this proposal. How have I declared war on the lower class when I have given them a virtually permanent tax holiday? Please reconsider. |

Message | The lower classes subsist only on goods that are essential. No tax should be placed to increase in any way the price of the bare essential products. However, luxury goods are not necessary, and are purchased relatively little considering this nation's extreme poverty. Adding a tax on them to make up for the lack of tax on essential goods is just and basic common sense. |
