Message | No way. Prostitution exist, that's a given fact. Illegal prostitution is dangerous and damaging to those forced into the profession, professional, legal prostitution promotes safer practices and less social stigma. There's no reason to prohibit it. |

Message | Precisely, we should give as much protection as we can to what is known as the 'worlds oldest profession'. |

Message | Although it's regrettable, it is better than the possibilty of the spread of sexual diseases and the misuse of children and illegal immigrants. Minister of Health & Social Services |

Message | Could I get clarification as to whether there is a trade union for women working in the Hutori sex industry? I would support this bill if it kept prostitution legal but clamped down on the pimp. |

Message | There is a trade union, but membership is voluntary, as in line with current law. I've not seen the recent figures for membership though, but I think the vast majority of those working in the profession are members because of the protection afforded to them. |
Date | 16:45:36, June 28, 2005 CET | From | Libertarian Socialist Federation | To | Debating the Prostitution ban |
Message | We feel that prostitution is better legal as it protects women against expolitative and possibly dangerous pimps and we also agree with the points raised by RRP. |
Date | 19:37:11, June 28, 2005 CET | From | Communist Party | To | Debating the Prostitution ban |
Message | "Prostitution exists" is not a "given fact"; it is a social fact dependent on a climate that fosters it. While we recognize that the present state of affairs may allow for greater protection for prostitutes, given that they remain prostitutes, it also allows pimps and panderers to do their business with no legal repercussions. This fosters related businesses, such as child prostitution, sex slavery, and the trade in addictive drugs. This bill, along with the advances outlined in the Campaign Against Domestic Violence, could largely wipe out the economic impetus for prostitution in the nation of Hutori. |
Date | 19:45:02, June 28, 2005 CET | From | Communist Party | To | Debating the Prostitution ban |
Message | If we gain control of the Internal Affairs and Justice Ministry, with the current cabinet proposals, we will not use prostitution laws to lock up prostitutes, but to prosecute pimps and panderers. We would arrest prostitutes only to provide them with a refuge from which they could safely testify against the pimps and panderers if they wished, and they would be released forthwith.+ |

Message | And how many would? While government maintained each prostitute is licensed and vetted. Streetwalking is not permitted. Brothels are run by madams for female and mixed brothels and, as you term them, 'pimps' run male brothels. Escorts are escorts only and can not return sexual favours. Bodyguards, etc, monitor rooms. Barrier methods of contraception are always used. Any unlicensed prostitution is swiftly dealt with by police. If prostitution was banned how could we ensure all this? |
Date | 20:18:50, June 28, 2005 CET | From | Militant Labour Party | To | Debating the Prostitution ban |
Message | In its current form, this legislation is seriously flawed. It does not offer a way of protecting vulnerable women. The legislation must provide with it a guarantee that if people cannot find a decent enough living, they should not be forced to sell their bodies. This means a commitment to a significant rise in unemployment benefit, alongside a significant rise in the minimum wage to meet this. Also, the legislation itself must ensure that the state provides accommodation, childcare, and protection for former sex-workers. |

Message | We would have to vote against this legislation. |
