Message | Support. But court orders aren't the government. |

Message | I agree with the motive, but do not see the courts as the government. My view of the courts is that they are a safeguard to ensure that the patient has in fact consented to euthanasia and has freely given that consent. If the Nationalist party can explain how the doctors would provide that safeguard (I will support this legislation). Unfortunately I fear doctors have a vested interest one way or the other and tend to see the courts at least as independent. I am happy to have it explained in the alternative. |

Message | I believe then in the treatment of a sick or dying person, and there right to die in peace, my trust is given to Doctors over Judges. |

Message | Doctors have dozens of patients and competing pressures, they also have the opportunity by virtue of their close and trusting relationship with the patients to exert undue influence over patients. I am not yet satisfied that this bill will result in the euthanasia of people who want to die rather than the killing of those who the doctors believe have nothing to be gained from living. |

Message | I see your Point SD, but courts are take time, time most people could live without. Courts are also as busy as doctors and court and judges can be swade by public opinion, lawyers and pressure groups. I believe that a Family, or trusted doctor is the best way for this treatment to occur |

Message | At the end of the day, the SD believes in the right to Euthanasia. Whilst we have some reservations expressed above, we also recognise that Doctors, are trained professionals, with a professional code of conduct and a committment to serving their patients. We do not think that doctors any more than individuals would take such important decisions lightly, and as pointed out by the Nationalist Party, they have the medical experience and relationship with patients to consider the matter having regard o the medical facts and the wishes of the patietnts rather than public opinion. These decisions, important as they are, should be the dignified and personal decision between an individual, their family, their doctor and if appropriate their god. They are not matters for public consumption before the courts. We support this amendment to the law. |
