Bill: Abolition of the Malpractice Cap Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Telamon Royalist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2293
Description[?]:
Malpractice awards are currently capped. While this may seem to be necessary to keep doctors in practice, the fact remains that there are some cases of malpractice so glaring as to make this law oppressive. Seriously, would you state that there should be a legal maximum on the value of a family member's life? |

Old value:: There is a cap on monetary damages awarded to patients in lawsuits.
Current: There is a cap on monetary damages awarded to patients in lawsuits.

Message | ((OOC: I lost my mother to gross malpractice in the United States in 2003, and then, before we could file, Oregon went and instituted a $500,000 cap. According to our lawyer, and indeed according to the DOCTOR'S lawyer, we had a solid case for about $4.5 million, based on her life expectancy and the fact that she was my primary caregiver (I have severe epilepsy. No, computers don't trigger it, before you ask.) And now we were being told she wasn't worth it. You can see why I'm trying to get this one changed, no?)) |

Message | Again, the Centre party would like to make its expressions of sympathy to the TRP and commit itself to support on this issue. |
Date | 20:04:54, October 03, 2006 CET | From | Telamon Socialist Party | To | Debating the Abolition of the Malpractice Cap Act |
Message | The Socialist Party agrees that it is wrong to cap the value of a human life, but would like to point out that this may lead to the loss of certain persons' lives being awarded greater compensation in a courthouse, and this would then imply that some are worth more than others. Due to this, we will not support this bill, but will not stand against it either. |
