Bill: A Fair Go At Work Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Green Workers Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2293

Description[?]:

The GWP believes that, with our country's high prosperity and extremely low unemployment, it is about time to start building up some form of a welfare state to benefit our people.

Our workers work ceaselessly, yet greatly fear an illness, or an accident, as it means unemployment. There is no state system to support such workers in this situation - or even to guarantee what constitutes a fair rate of pay! We are 100 years behind the West in providing for our citizens, so we propose the following:

- The right to strike must be enshrined in law and be free from the threat of sacking, to give the workers some semblance of equality with their much more powerful employers.

- The right to a minimum wage sanctified by the state when working.

- The right to a liveable unemployment insurance amount from the state.

Message"While the SLP agrees that there must be improvements made to Welfare, Social Services and minimum wage laws must be established, we feel that some of the proposals presented are excessive. We also feel that some of the actions presented in terms of union rights are excessive.

Also we do not feel that Lusitania has currently reached a solid level of prosperity, thanks to the PP's awful economic overview. The current GDP/capita is 22 575 DAR/per capita. Surely we can do better than that. The first step is making sure that everyone is included in the economy. Fomenting a permanent sub-class as the PP has had with its awful welfare policy is a far greater drain on the economy and growth than a proper welfare system would produce." - Robert Reich, SLP Trade and Industry Expert.
