Bill: Budget proposal of April 2296

Details

Submitted by[?]: Social Liberal Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2297

Description[?]:

"The Social Liberal Party proposes to adjust the government's spending budget to better address the economic and social situation of the República da Lusitânia.

First off we'd like to proudly announce that the Prime Minister and President will both be taking a steep pay-cut. The extravagant 500 million DAR salary has been reduced to an accommodating salary of 250 thousand DAR.

Internal Affairs, Defence and Infrastructure will have to make do with considerable cuts as we move away from the conservative policy of hand-outs to defence industries, bureaucrats and private contractors.

We are also proud to announce sharp increases in providing quality health care coverage for all citizens, increase in post-secondary tuition coverage and student loans, more environmental protection and a small but significant increase in subsidizing science and technological research.

A 200 billion DAR budget is well under the 270 billion revenue of last year's budget and it can easily accommodate the 88 billion DAR surplus." - Warren Buffett. Finance Minister.

MessageAnd as expected the surplus is now reduced from nearly 90 billion DAR to 75 billion DAR.

We've restored essential elements of the welfare state and re-installed progressive taxation.
Now the priority for the Social Liberal Party will be to reduce sales taxes, corporate taxes and eventually income taxes without cutting back on essential government programs and if possible increasing some. While I do value sales taxes because they are an incentive for family saving habits, when they are at 15% and 5% percent it is way too high for my taste. They should be both lower.

Random fact: Real-life organisations should not be referenced in Particracy, unless they are simple and generic (eg. "National Organisation for Women" is allowed).

Random quote: "The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes." - Winston Churchill
