Bill: Strike Vote Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Telamon Royalist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2297

Description[?]:

Currently in our nation, when the workers in an industry or trade wish to strike, the union calling for the strike must recieve a 50%-plus-one-vote majority of the ENITRE MEMBERSHIP before that strike can legally take place. We feel that this inappropriately grants greater power to opposing members than it does to approving members, as it gives them the option to abstain, thus not only in effect voting against the proposal, but possibly nullifying a vote in which a majority of the votes cast are in favour.

We feel that non-voters should never have greater power than voters. This bill would change that.

MessageYou realise that this allows the hijacking of union votes by a small number of militant activists (who are often the ones in high positions). Whilst they would be obliged to notify all members it does make it much easier to rig ballots to give the desired result and not to actually represent the majority of union members' interests

Random fact: When it comes to creating a Cultural Protocol in a Culturally Open nation, players are not necessarily required to provide a plausible backstory for how the nation's cultural background developed. However, the provision of a plausible backstory may be a factor in whether Moderation approves the Cultural Protocol if players in surrounding nations question its appropriateness for their region of the game map.
