From | Social Republican Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | This is perfectly acceptable. Having it illegal is violating the Freedom of Press. We realize that this is an ethical area for some, however, we do not think that any one person's sensitivity should dictate the civil liberties of all others. |

From | Labour Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | Whilst the LP sees the value in the freedom of speech argument we are none the less compelled to consider other aspects of this bill.
Whilst this bill is not gender specific it should be acknowledged that the main purveyors of pornography are men and the subjects are women. And whilst we concede that many women have spoken in support of their willingness to participate in the industry we must also acknowledge the economic conditions that prevail upon the vast majority of women who find themselves compelled to work in the industry because of the lack of viable alternatives. In this way we see the industry being comparable to prostitution. Both industries are capable of generating vast amounts of money and almost all f it ends up in the hands of men at the expense of women.
Neither should we ignore the power of pornography to reinforce particular notions of submissive feminine behaviour and the pressure such message place upon the young women of Malivia to conform to male fabricated fantasies.
We realise this presents a difficult choice for our colleagues in other parties, but we ask that you vote against this effort to legitimise an avenue of female exploitation in our proud nation.
PLEASE VOTE NO.

From | Leviathan Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | This issue definately requires more debate on both sides; it is a fortunate turn that voting on this bill will not finish before the next elections, as it gives all of us a chance to consider the balance we must strike. |

From | Radical Centrists | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | OK, do you have any suggestions for how to balance this? [noting hat the gam lacks a certain subtlety in this regard, at least for the moment] |

From | Leviathan Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | Currently, the law bans pornographic acts, not naked pictures, which means that only hardcore pornography is banned. We feel this is an acceptable compromise, and support the law as it stands. |

From | Radical Centrists | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | Our people are not children. What they wish to do with their bodies and what they wish to view with regards to others' bodies ought to be their concern. We agree with concerns over the exploitation of women; however, such failings in our society can only be overcome by taking a mature approach to issues like these. Treat our people like adults and maybe they'll start to behave like adults. Prohibition simply conceals our problems from view. |

From | Leviathan Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | Should we allow people to sell their kidneys? No, because only the poor will take to selling parts of their bodies off, and that kind of exploitation is not to be allowed. A 'mature' approach assumes the can opener; the problem is the power dyamic with regards to gender, and allowing gender exploitation to continue isn't going to even the power balance. These failings of our society can only be overcome through progressive education, and part of that education is teaching our children that men and women are not sex objects to be bought and sold. We undermine that message when we allow hardcore pornography. When we have created a generation of ctizens that has, in fact, overcome the power dynamic between men and women, then we can revist this issue. For the time being, though, we help nothing by allowing pornography, and we hurt no one by keeping it from our nation. |

From | LibCom Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | This is a tricky one. Leviathan and RCP both make good points. If we could legalise the possession and distribution of pornography but not its sale, that might be a reasonable compromise, but I guess the game doesn't allow that. I'd be inclined to go for legalisation since, as RCP points out, prohibition merely conceals the problem. |

From | Leviathan Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | And again I ask, legalizing pornography helps solve the problem how? We should not overturn laws, and allow harmful acts, unless we are sure they will, indeed, help, which I have not heard asserted. All I hear is 'well we can't stop it, so let's legalize it.,' and that's no reason to pass a law. |

From | Leviathan Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | Freedom for who? Why are representatives here so ready to ignore gender power dynamics? Willful ignorance or simple apathy? |

From | LibCom Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | While I condemn the social relations in which porn is generally produced, and the role some porn plays in reinforcing patriarchal social relations, condemning porn itself is a reactionary viewpoint. I'm in favour of legalisation. |

From | Leviathan Party | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | Which, again, doesn't answer the question of how legalizing pornography helps alleviate the power dynamic. |
Date | not recorded |
From | Radical Centrists | To | Debating the Legalising pornography | Message | It doesn't, but neither does maintaining an ineffective and restrictive piece of legislation as in the status quo. Effectively we have a curtailment of freedoms that serves no purpose. Legalisation is no panacea, it is simply pruning unnecessary restrictions. |

Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American...[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people." - Tenche Coxe |
