Bill: A constitution for the twenty-fourth century and beyond

Details

Submitted by[?]: Covenanters (IA)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2305

Description[?]:

We propose the following amendments to the Luthorian constitution:

* A change of name to 'The Holy Commonwealth of Luthori'
* Translation of monarch's title to English and adjustment in line with the above change: 'By the Grace of God, of the Holy Commonwealth of Luthori, Defender of The Faith, King'
* Election (by two thirds majority in this house) of a new monarch (since we have heard nothing of Emperor Richard I since he set sail on the crusades over a hundred years ago)
* This house be renamed the 'King's Council'
* The leader of this house be titled 'President of the King's Council'

MessageNation name change: We do not want a title with "Holy" in it.

Monarchy: We would like an elected President instead.

Name of legislature and Head of Government: Your proposals are not ideal for us, but we would support them in preference to the status quo.

MessageI've been thinking: maybe 'King's Council' sounds better than 'Royal Assembly' and if the SNU want a president, why don't we make the Head of Government the 'President of the King's Council'?

MessageWe would support most of the articles in the Bill as a compromise, with the exception of the following:

a) We are not happy with the proposal for the title of the Head of Government, but would accept "President of the King's Council" as a compromise, as the CUP have suggested.

b) We are not happy with the title for the Head of State, but we would accept "King" as a compromise.

MessageThere is an apparent mistake with this Bill; it provides for the legislature be called "President of the King's Council", which I don't think is what the CUP intended.
