Bill: Protecting the vulnerable
Details
Submitted by[?]: Likaton Coalition of the Willing
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2313
Description[?]:
This Bill aims to remove the ambiguity that allows prostitution rings to profit, whilst those working within those rings are subject to no protection. Within this Bill, we propose the following key statutes: The penalty for being a prostitute is limited to 'social' sentences, such as community service. It may never be custodial, or fiscal. The penalty for running a house of ill-repute is a punitative fine, and potentially a custodial term for repeat offences. The penalty for assaulting or abusing a prostitute is no less than any similar crime against a non-prostitute; a persons means of living can never be used to mitigate a criminal act. Anyone found to be knowingly profiting from the enforced prostitution of another shall be remanded for a custodial term, with a financial penalty to be decided by the courts, but to be no less in value than the previous 6 months immoral earnings. |
Proposals
Article 1

Message | This bill is an assault upon the cornerstone of private property. If I do not own myself, how can I own anything else? And if I do oen myself, can I not rent myself to another for whatever period and purpose I desire? Is there any essential difference between renting myself to a corporation to sit at a desk for eight hours a day, and renting myself to an individual in smaller increments to lie in a bed? If I am a trained chef, can I not prepare meals for give another pleasure at the table? If so, then why can a trained courtesan prepare himself or herself to give another pleasure in the bed? |
